It was odd to see Audi’s flagship A8 lineup not include the brand’s signature performance-oriented S model. This odd gap in coverage ends with the 2020 model, which will gain a new S8 variant with insane power and straight-line speed to go with its gobs of luxury.
Under its hood, the 2020 Audi S8 will feature a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine that pounds out 563 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Like any proper Audi, this power will head to all four wheels via the quattro all-wheel-drive system for a lightning-quick 3.8-second 0-to-60 time. Top speed will ring in at 155 mph, thanks to a governor, but dynamic all-wheel steering and predictive adaptive suspension will make this massive sedan a little nimbler in the twist.
Audi’s S models are about more than just power, as they also boast aesthetic upgrades to set them apart from their A siblings. The S8 gains a sportier front bumper, more prominent ground effects, silver mirror housings, and S-exclusive quad-exit exhaust tips. Buyers can further tune the S8 to their liking with optional 21-inch five-double-spoke wheels. The S8 also features standard HS Matrix-design headlights and optional Audi Laser Light and OLED animated taillights.
Inside, the 2020 S8’s cabin will include luxury in gobs with its dual-pane acoustic glass that minimizes outside noise, diamond-stitched Valcona leather sport seats, an in-cabin air ionizer with scents, a Carbon Vector upper dash with 3D depth effect, and a brushed matte-aluminum lower inlay.
The 2020 Audi S8 will debut at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show on Nov. 20, 2019. When it hits showrooms – the official on-sale date will come later – the 2020 Audi S8 will start from $129,500.
