This is the same car that successfully tackled the famous Wall of Death, showing off just how sporty the little subcompact hatch really is. The 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder produces just 100 horsepower and 98 pound-feet of torque, which isn’t exactly robust by today’s standards. Mazda provides plenty of zoom factor via the low 2,300 pound curb weight, allowing the little engine to rocket the car forward with surprising vigor. Even though the car is outfitted with an electric-assist steering setup, steering is incredibly firm and provides excellent feedback. Combined with a taut suspension, the Mazda2 is certainly a modern hot hatch.
