2020 Porsche Macan Turbo Makes SUVs Fun Again
435 horsepower – that sums up much of what you need to know up front about the 2020 Porsche Macan Turbo. Instead of sitting back on its laurels, Porsche keeps pushing harder on all model lines, and this time it’s the little Macan that’s shining brightly.
The new Macan and Macan S both have been highly praised for astoundingly good handling and exceptional power. But the Turbo model blows all that away. To do that, Porsche dropped a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 into the little crossover, lifted directly from the Cayenne and Panamera. It’s right out of the muscle car wars playbook: get a big, powerful engine for a heavy car, then wedge it under the hood of a smaller, lighter car. Although 2.9 liters really isn’t big, but you get the point.
This strategy means the 2020 Porsche Macan Turbo with the Sport Chrono Package can do 0-62 in 4.3 seconds. The SUV can also reach 168 mph. What a time to be alive.
Other details include a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, Surface Coated Brakes with a tungsten-carbine coating, Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive standard, plus options like carbon-ceramic brakes, an adjustable air suspension, and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus.
Instead of having in-your-face styling, the Macan Turbo actually looks dignified. Sure, this isn’t a sports car, but it’s pushing closer into real performance territory. Pricing starts at $83,600 and the launch should happen in late 2019.
