Mercedes-Maybach S600 Starts from $189,350

The Maybach brand has lived a rather unsettled life, moving from building super-luxury cars based on Mercedes-Benz chassis in the early 1900s to producing diesel engines for trains and tanks in the mid-20th century. Then came the Daimler buyout in the 1960s that resulted in several special-edition versions of Benz vehicles, and that eventually led to the 2003 release of two Maybach-branded vehicles, the 57 and 62. Mercedes finally shuttered the Maybach brand after 2012 due to nearly non-existent sales.

Now with some creative restructuring of its naming system, Mercedes has found another new way to package the Maybach name, and that is to use it to identify uber-luxury rides in a way similar to how it uses the AMG brand. This new sub-brand is set to launch its first production car here in the U.S., the Mercedes-Maybach S600, and now we finally have a price tag to attach to this super-luxurious version of the S-Class.

Mercedes has announced that the cost of getting into the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 will be a cool $189,350. That price may seem outrageous to the normal car-buying public, but to uber-luxury consumers, this is actually not bad considering the $166,900 base MSRP of the standard 2015 S600.

For the cash, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 comes standard with eight extra inches of length (mostly aimed at adding rear-seat legroom), one of the quietest cabins in the world (quietest in the world in the rear seats), a Driver Assistance Package, Magic Body Control, Night View Assist Plus, the Warmth and Comfort Package with a heated windshield, a heads-up display, LED Intelligent Lighting System, a Burmester 3D surround-sound system, the Executive Rear Seat Package, a rear-seat entertainment system, and the Air Balance Package. Yeah, it’s fully loaded.

Under the hood is Mercedes’ tried-and-true 6.0-liter, V-12, biturbo powerplant that injects 523 horsepower and 612 pound-feet of torque into this super-luxury rig. What’s more, the peak torque kicks in at just 1,900 rpm, so you’ll certainly have no time making it to your next business meeting on time.

The 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 will hit U.S. dealers in April 2015.
