Toyota Goes Crazy With Land Cruiser SEMA Build

Land Cruiser are kings of the trail, an SUV that’s big and awesome at getting through just about anywhere rugged. That’s why when Toyota showed up at SEMA with a modified Land Cruiser which might struggle to get over larger speed bumps, it was a shock.

Even more shocking is what’s under the hood. Toyota engineers strapped two Garrett turbochargers onto the stock engine. According to Toyota, those snails are the same size as volleyballs. The engine was also completely rebuilt, with a custom ATI transmission attached to it.

The result is a claimed 2,000-plus horsepower. That’s a far cry from the stock 381 horsepower. To accommodate that kind of output, Toyota went with far wider wheels, while the track was narrowed by 3 inches. It’s an impressive setup.

Even more impressive is the claim that this Land Cruiser can reach 220 mph. An attempt to break the record for the fastest SUV in the world is apparently in the works. I’m sure Toyota will make a big deal about setting the new world record, and it should. After all, this is a completely crazy build most people would never have thought up. Then again, Toyota also made that insane V-8 Camry for SEMA, so we should all get used to the company cooking up some impressive builds for the show. If only Honda would follow that lead…
