The BMW 6 Series Coupe Is Dead
Without any fanfare, press release, or even comment to the media, BMW just stopped making 6 Series coupes. Don’t be too sad, because the 6 Series lives on in Gran Coupe and convertible forms, which are what everyone was buying anyway.
If you do want a new BMW 6 Series coupe, there are still some left on dealer lots. Better hurry, because news is spreading quickly.
Road & Track confirmed with BMW that the 6 Series coupe is no longer being produced. In fact, BMW cut it out of the production cycle back in February, but nobody even noticed. That’s a sign the car won’t really be missed much. People really don’t buy cars that much, and coupes have fallen out of favor the most.
Rumors circulating around claim the 6 Series nameplate won’t be cut, like what some people were saying last year. Instead, it will be transferred to what’s currently called the 5 Series GT. Personally, I’d rather see it dead than in that position.
This killing of the 6 Series coupe is strategic, because it makes way for the 8 Series return. Of course, the 8 Series will cost more, and make BMW fatter profits.
