Subaru to Show Off the All-New 2020 Legacy in Chicago
The Subaru Legacy just entered its fifth model year since its 2015 redesign, but the Japanese all-wheel-drive experts feel it’s time for another do-over. Subaru will reveal the all-new 2020 Legacy on Feb. 7 at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show.
Though details are very scarce on the 2020 Legacy, Subaru gave us a darkened teaser image of the cabin and a video showing off a lot of the exterior. Starting with the interior image, the one big change inside is clear: A massive portrait-oriented touchscreen in the center stack. There also will be a new shifter with a leather boot, which leads me to believe Subaru may put a little more focus on premium materials inside the new Legacy.
The exterior video — screenshot above — is the most telling and confirms our suspicions that Subaru will continue its ways of reserved exterior redesigns. From the looks of the teaser image compared to today’s Legacy, the mirror posts move from the door panel to the A-pillar, the LED daytime running lights will feature more of a “D” shape, and the taillights will be new. Otherwise, it appears to be business as usual for the ol’ Scooby sedan.
Under its hood, expect to see the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine to remain, but it may get a slight power boost and some other tweaks to increase fuel economy. The big greasy-bit change should be Subaru dropping the 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine and replacing it with a turbocharged four-pot — possibly the 260-horsepower 2.4-liter from the Ascent crossover.
Stay tuned for the Feb. 7 reveal of the all-new 2020 Legacy.
