Shelby Pushes the Mustang EcoBoost to 335 Horsepower
Shelby has an extensive history with Ford and its Mustang, and once Ford introduced the new Mustang Ecoboost, I knew it was only a matter of time before Shelby sunk its teeth into the boosted Stang. Today, Shelby introduces the Shelby GT package, a new performance upgrade for the Mustang Ecoboost.
The most important part of this new kit to most gearheads is the engine upgrade. Thanks to PedalMax and BoostMax tunes, and a Shelby-tuned Borla exhaust system, the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-pot now produces 335 horsepower. That a healthy 25-horsepower boost over the standard Mustang Ecoboost.
Horespower isn’t all that matters here either, as Shelby also tweaked the Mustang’s handling too. The updates include a Ford Performance handling upgrade and 20-inch Venice WELD racing wheels shod in 275/35ZR20 Michelin Pilot Sport rubber.
There are also tons of visual upgrades that set the Shelby GT apart from other Mustang Ecoboosts. Included in the visual upgrades are “Shelby” rocker panel graphics, a “Powered by Ford” emblem, carbon-fiber front splitter, upper and lower grilles with a “Shelby GT” badge, rear spoiler and rocker panels, Shelby GT badging and striping, serialized dash and engine plaques, embroidered headrests, floor mats with the Shelby logo, and illuminated Shelby logos on the doorsill plates.
On top of the standard features listed above, there are also tons of optional buts available. On the outside, buyers can opt for a carbon-fiber hood extension, carbon-fiber mirror caps, paint on the aforementioned carbon-fiber bits, and a convertible light bar. The interior options include a Katzkin interior upgrade, a roll cage, racing seats with five-point harnesses, and a Shelby three-gauge dash pod. Under the hood, buyers can get a Shelby valve cover or a Shelby engine cap kit.
Buyers can also choose from a list of performance-enhancing options to push their Shelby GT to a new level. These options include Ford Performance half shafts, differential and transmission cooling, six-piston Wilwood front brakes, four-piston Wilwood rear brakes, a brake-duct kit, camber and castor plates, and a 3.55-to-1 axle ratio.
Needless to say, the Shelby GT is badass in its base setup, but the optional equipment can make it a true performance rig.
The issue at hand is that this upgrade is pretty expensive at $23,995, not including the Mustang Ecoboost. With the base Mustang Ecoboost and this kit together, you are looking at a base price of $49,390, which is $12,995 more than the range-topping Mustang GT Premium Fastback.
