Finally, a Ford GT We All Can Afford

The Ford GT has always been an amazing ride, despite its issues in the early 2000’s. While me and many other petrolheads have drooled over it (especially the new 2017 GT), very few of us actually have the money to own one. Well, that all comes to an end today… sort of. Model creator extraordinaire, Revell, has announced that it’ll release a snap-together model of the 2017 GT and show it off at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2016.

The kit that Revell will show off in Detroit will be for most ages of model builders, as it will have only 14 pieces, making assembly a breeze. What’s more, with it being a snap-together model, there is no need to worry about gluing your fingers together like I have done countless times in my model-building years. The production kit, however, will have double the pieces, but should only take 10 to 15 minutes to build.

This model will hit stores in April 2016 at a price of $14.99. The simpler kit will be available only at the Detroit show, and it will have a special stamping on it to signify its limited availability. Revell didn’t announce an official price for the show-exclusive kit, but I am sure it will be either free or about the same price as the retail kit.

Revell and Ford have teamed up for Make ‘n Take model kits at auto shows since 2013, and the GT will be the third Ford snap-together kit offered by the model creator. The other two Revell snap models bearing the blue oval were the Mustang and Raptor.

While this isn’t the 600-plus-horsepower, carbon-fiber GT that will hit Ford showrooms next year, it at least will help get us closer to the real thing. Plus, these models do a great job getting young kids sucked into the world of automotive awesomeness.
