Good news for people living in areas that receive significant snowfall each year. Ford has announced that the newly redesigned 2015 F-150 will come with an optional snow plow prep package. Unlike other prep packages, the one for the new F-150 will be available for all trim levels and configurations, instead of it only being available on top-of-the-line SuperCrew models.
The only catch is that for the package to be installed, the F-150 must be outfitted with four-wheel drive as well as the 5.0-liter V8 engine. Ford does require that the actual snow plow be purchased from and fitted by a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier, which are spread across the country. The trucks will be able to handle plows that weigh up to 450 pounds.
The snow plow prep package comes with a single button the driver pushes to activate snow plow mode. The truck turns off all but the essential equipment in the truck, diverting power toward the operation of the plow.
“The new 2015 F-150 is the toughest F-150 ever, and by using more high-strength steel in its frame and advanced materials in the body, we’ve made the new truck up to 700 pounds lighter. This leads to more capability and better handling, which is exactly what you’d want for plowing. Adding a snow plow prep kit to our lineup helps ensure our customers have even more tools at their disposal to get the job done,” said Eric Peterson, marketing manager for the Ford F-150.
Ford says it will announce pricing of the snow plow prep option later in 2014, just ahead of the official release of the 2015 F-150.
