New Aston Martin Vantage Charges Onto The Scene
It’s not every day we get to see the successor of a highly influential, beautiful car. It’s even less common for that successor to be captivating from the beginning. But not every automaker is like Aston Martin, which just unveiled the new Vantage. It’s gorgeous, and sounds like quite the fun ride.
Yes, it looks more modern, but still sleek and sophisticated. Some people might call it sexy, but I don’t view cars that way — call me weird.
Beyond just looks, this thing can really move. The 503-horsepower 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 works with an eight-speed ZF transmission. That combo rockets the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The Vantage also can reach 195 mph.
Part of the secret sauce of that performance is a new electronic rear differential. It’s the first time an Aston Martin has used one. It can change from fully open to completely locked down in milliseconds, improving vehicle response as conditions change.
To keep this thing from flying off the road or track, Aston Martin incorporates plenty of aero into the beautiful bodywork. It also has fences on the underbody, sending air right to where cooling is needed. The air slips off the back, thanks to the large diffuser, and counteracting turbulence kicked up by the rear wheels. The side gills extract heat from the wheel arches.
Everything looks beautiful with the new Aston Martin Vantage. You can buy one now for the low, low price of $149,995 in the U.S. Cars should start shipping in the second quarter of next year.
