Mercedes Flashes the New G-Class Interior

You probably don’t read many Mercedes-Benz press releases. They’re fun little documents full of platitudes about dynamic designs and engaging technologies. The automaker revealed the new G-Class interior, accompanied by this same fluffy marketing speak. I’ll spare you the nonsense and just give a straight interpretation of what we know so far.
First off, the air vents, switchgear, etc. look much like other modern Mercedes. Yeah, that’s not surprising, and yet it feels odd. I think it signals that the new SUV will look like the rest of the modern model lineup, instead of like a breadbox on wheels. And that makes me sad, in a weird sort of way.
Thankfully, Mercedes-Benz kept some unique features, like the passenger dash-mounted grab handle. Parts of the interior even have a squared-off, muscular look. But you get to use that stupid Comand touchpad controller, which I was hoping would be ditched.
We do get to see in the backseat shots two important things. First, the SUV is still wide, so yay for space. Two, the exposed rear spare tire remains. You can see it through the glass, and it’s one of the few exterior design details we get for now.
