After parking the nameplate in the hangar for several years, likely hoping everyone would forget the past, Lincoln has brought back the Aviator. If you remember the old version, this is truly nothing like it. The 2020 Lincoln Aviator has a flowing, modern, and surprisingly graceful aesthetic to it. Like its big brother the Navigator, it also doesn’t look like every other luxury SUV on the market.
Thankfully, the Aviator is more than just unique-looking. The Grand Touring model packs a potent twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 with an electrified hybrid infrastructure. The result is a whopping 450 horsepower and earth-wrenching 600 lb.-ft. of torque. Among the drive mode options is the ability to drive only using electricity, although Lincoln hasn’t announced range.
As you probably already suspect, the Lincoln Aviator also has all the latest vehicle technologies. Going a step further in the “greeting you as you approach” category, not only do lights turn on as you get near the SUV, the suspension lowers so stepping inside requires less effort. Like Teslas, you can use your phone as the key. There’s also a new suite of driver-assist systems, called Lincoln Co-Pilot360.
Because it’s a luxury SUV, the Aviator also can be loaded with a fair share of opulence. For example, the available Revel Ultima 3D Audio System has 28 speakers and is supposed to deliver superlative sound quality. Oh, and Lincoln is really talking up the symphonic chimes, because it really wants to emphasize the sophisticated nature of the Aviator.
