The New Volvo XC40 Subscription Will Cost You $600 a Month

We already saw the new Volvo XC40 and learned the crossover would be available as part of a new subscription service from the Swedes. Now we’ve learned from Automotive News that service will cost $600 a month.
Before you choke over a car payment that high, read on. This isn’t just a car payment, because that figure includes insurance, factory-scheduled maintenance, wearable parts replacement (like tires and wiper blades), roadside assistance, tire/wheel damage protection, and 15,000 miles of driving each year. Basically, you just pay for the gas.
Now, the $600 payment gets you an XC40 T5 model, which has the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. It also includes the Vision Package, Premium Package, a panoramic roof, heated seats/steering wheel, and 19-inch wheels.
If you shell out $700 a month, the T5 R-Design is on the table. That upgrades you to 20-inch wheels, plus a Harmon Kardon sound system.
Keep in mind, you don’t pony up a down payment up front, like with a lease. The term for the Care by Volvo program is 24 months. After 12 months, you can switch cars and sign a new 24-month contract, if you so choose.
People are debating if this is a good deal or not. It’ll be interesting to see if car shoppers take the bait.
