Prep Your Wallet: The Hyper-Limited Audi R8 Coupe Competition Edition Nears

I am a legit fan of the Audi R8, and I wear it like a badge of honor. There’s something about this German supercar that just does it for me. And now Audi has to go and really mess me up by releasing an all-new 2018 R8 V10 Plus Coupe Competition Edition.

Because the R8 V10 Plus is already amazing, there isn’t a ton Audi could do to make it better. What it could do, though, is drop weight and up the downforce. The weight loss comes in the form of 2.2 pounds from titanium brake backing plates and 26.4 pounds from matte-black 20-inch milled wheels. Audi also pumped the downforce to 551.2 pounds at 196 mph — a 220.5-pound increase — by adding a full-carbon-fiber aerodynamics kit that includes a fixed rear wing, side sills, front spoiler, flics, and rear diffuser.

Other upgrades to the 2018 Audi R8 Competition Edition include a Suzuka Gray paint job, black racing seats with red contrast stitching, black optic exterior package including black grille surround and front lower air inlets and rear air outlets, dynamic steering, full leather package including upper and lower dash and door and side panels, a 13-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with 550 watts, performance brake pads, three-way adjustable coilover suspension, Alcantara steering wheel with 12 o’clock marker, and carbon-fiber shift paddles.

Audi will ship just 10 examples of the R8 V10 Plus Coupe Competition Edition to the U.S., and each one will run $237,350. It will arrive in showrooms in November 2018.
