Ford Made The Mustang Better Using Duct Tape

Ford improved the 2018 Mustang with some duct tape. Yes, Chevy fanboys will get lots of mileage out of this one, but it’s not what you’re probably thinking.

Using a piece of duct tape, engineers solved a problem of sluggish response through turns. They noticed the issue, even though in wind tunnels the Mustang did great. To fix the problem, one engineer placed duct tape over the lower gap in the grille, smoothing things out.

This simple solution resulted in a 5.6 percent bump in fuel efficiency. So you get better performance, and lower fuel costs.

If you look at a 2018 Mustang, you’re not going to find any duct tape. Instead, designers decided to modify the nose so it sits lower, plus made the front splitter larger, so the car is grounded to the ground better. A new rocker shield improves airflow under the Mustang. Ford tested the EcoBoost after the redesign, and found drag dropped by 3 percent.

Once again, we see that duct tape can fix any problem, even if you’re an automotive engineer.
