Of Course The Toyota Supra Won’t Have A Manual Option

There’s a dirty rumor floating around the automotive world right now that the new Toyota Supra will only be offered with an automatic transmission. Let me tell you, this is probably true. In fact, I would be floored if Toyota lets you add a 6-speed manual to the car.

Don’t get me wrong, I think a manual for the new Supra would be great. But it’ll never happen.

Thanks to the heavy BMW influence on the car, it supposedly will feature an automatic transmission straight from Bavaria. Autocar, the source of this nasty rumor, claims to also know the Supra will use a hybrid powertrain, which we’ve heard before, plus all-wheel drive (xDrive?).

Think about it for a second: not only has BMW been not loving manuals (okay, it’s been coming around a little on this subject), you also don’t see hybrid cars with a manual transmission. Logistically, it doesn’t make sense. Plus, I’m sure an automotive engineer would love to explain why it’s not a good idea.

Don’t worry, though, because that automatic transmission will shift like lightning, while it emasculates the driver.

Funny enough, it might be if you want a hot Toyota with a manual, the 86 is your only hope.
