Subaru Re-Tunes the BRZ With a New tS Version
Subaru is known in Japan for its tS models, and now they’re making it to the U.S. with the debut of the BRZ tS.
This limited-run BRZ will not get any power upgrades (sigh), but it will get a handful of handling and visual updates that you can pair with your own turbocharger.
In the handling department, the BRZ tS will gain STI-tuned SACHS dampers and coil springs on the front and rear, flexible V-braces in the engine compartment, and new draw stiffeners on the chassis and subframe. For the first time ever, Subaru will also add 18-inch wheels to the BRZ, as it gains new lightweight STI wheels wrapped in still-too-skinny 215/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rubber. It also gains Brembo stopping power on all four corners.
The new BRZ gets some visual tweaks, including a manually adjustable carbon-fiber STI rear spoiler, and front, rear and side underspoilers. Rounding out the exterior mods, we have Cherry Blossom Red accents around the grille and the new rear bumper cover, a BRZ tS badge on the rear, black-painted mirrors, a roof-mounted shark fin antenna and badging, and STI fog light covers in place of the fog lights.
Inside, Subaru spruced up the BRZ tS with leather and Alcantara upholstery that features red contrast stitching and accents, a unique over-gauge visor and door trim, a cast-black center console, red front seat belts, and a frameless rearview mirror.
Subaru will limit the BRZ tS to just 500 examples that buyers can order in WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica, or Crystal White Pearl. Pricing will come as we near its early-2018 release, so stay tuned.
