Dodge Gives Us A Peak At The Demon’s Rubber

As excitement builds for the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, the automaker is teasing us with little details about the car. This time around, we learn about the wheels and tires, and see a sneak peak in the video above.

The Demon rides on 18×11-inch lightweight wheels, wrapped with 315/40R 18 Nitto NTO5R street-legal drag radials. The tires are 12.6 inches wide, so like the rest of the car they’ll be anything but subtle. They were also made specifically for the Demon, with a special new compound and construction.

All of that’s necessary, because the Dodge will kick out some serious torque at launch, and blowing out tires all the time would be embarrassing. Dodge revealed 3.09 rear axle gears and a higher stall speed torque converter are used on the Demon.

According to Dodge, the Demon produces 35 percent more launch force than the Hellcat. The question now is if it’ll be embarrassed by a Tesla?
