BMW Reveals The Show-Stopping I Vision Dynamics

BMW has been doing plenty of exciting things in Frankfurt. One of the more realistic and interesting cars from the Bavarians is the i Vision Dynamics. It’s an electrified Gran Coupe that supposedly can go 373 miles on a single charge. Yes, everyone’s calling this a “Tesla killer.” I think it just signals better EVs are coming.

This electric car can hit 120 mph, and go from 0 to 62 mph in just four seconds. It also looks nice, channeling some of the design flourishes from the i8. You’ll notice right away there’s no iconic kidney grille, because electric cars don’t need such things. Instead, there’s an illuminated outline where one would be, and that’s the most awkward-looking thing about this concept.

That’s right, this is just a concept. But it gives us a peek at BMW’s push to make it a leader in the EV space. Rumor has it Bavarian executives have put the fear of God in its engineering and design teams, saying Tesla’s making the company look foolish. They’re working overtime to turn the tables, and this is a step in the right direction.

According to BMW, it has plans in the works to have 25 electrified models by 2025. Of those, 12 will be purely electric. Can Tesla keep up with that kind of a pace? At the moment, it’s just trying to fulfill Model 3 orders, so likely not.
