Geely Unveils Lotus Plans
Yet another European automaker has been saved by a counterpart in Asia. Geely has some pretty cool and ambitious plans to make Lotus great again.
Bloomberg had the scoop on Geely’s vision, and it involves plenty of electrification. It makes sense, because all that adding lightness would help greatly with range. Also, Geely is looking to learn some tricks from the Brits when it comes to shedding curb weight from its lineup.
Before you get too worried, word is electric Lotus cars will still handle great. It’s a breath of fresh air when compared to the current EV market. Lotus leadership thinks it can create an EV that doesn’t tip the scale at two tons, and that’s wonderful.
Another big initiative Lotus could undertake with its new funding source is re-issuing classic models. The possibilities are endless, and it’s kind of like Christmas for enthusiasts. I don’t want to get my hopes up too much about this, because ultimately it might just be that Lotus helps restore people’s classics, which is still a great idea.
The future for Lotus looks bright – just consider what Geely has done for Volvo. The Chinese don’t get too controlling, but instead offer plenty of cash, and let these automakers do their thing.
