Toyota Facing Huge Truck Frame Legal Settlement

Toyota has a huge mess on its hands. Up to 225,000 Tacomas, Tundras and Sequoias have steel frames that love to rust like crazy. Thanks to a class-action suit, the company will be replacing the faulty frames, according to a report from Automotive News.

As you can imagine, replacing the frame on a truck isn’t cheap. You pretty much need to take the whole thing apart, then put it back together. Can we say high labor costs?

Apparently, the frames like to rust where the leaf springs are mounted on the rear. Dealers will need to inspect frames and see which need to be replaced.

Estimates are that Toyota will have to shell out $3.4 billion to fix all the effected trucks. Dealership service departments would be pretty busy with these jobs.

The legal settlement isn’t finalized yet, but it could include 2005-2008 Sequoias, 2005-2010 Tacomas and 2007-2008 Tundras. If the terms stay as they are right now, owners have 12 years from the date of sale are covered by the settlement deal.
