Over Half A Million Fords And Lincolns Recalled For Seatbelt Problem
If you or someone you know has a Ford or Lincoln vehicle, listen up. A total of 680,872 cars are being recalled, with 602,739 inside the United States alone. The problem has to do with the seatbelts, or the things that keep you from flying out the window in a crash.
More specifically, the anchor for the driver and front passenger seatbelt pretensioner cables possible isn’t insulated the way it should be. If that’s the case, during a crash the pretensioner cables could separate.
Needless to say, that’s a bad thing. Having your seatbelt not work the way it was designed is pretty serious, no matter how you cut things. So far, there are two accidents with injuries, so don’t delay taking care of this issue.
In the United States, the recalled vehicles are select 2013-2016 Ford Fusions, plus 2013-2015 Lincoln MKZs. The remedy dealers will use is to inject a coating into the seatbelt anchor pretensioners. This will insulate the cables from excess heat, eliminating the problem. If you think you have one of the recalled vehicles, contact your local Ford or Lincoln dealer.
