BMW M8 Clears its Throat in New Video

BMW recently revealed the concept version of the upcoming 8 Series, and all but one piece of it was pure awesomeness. BMW also recently revealed a heavily camouflaged version of the 8 Series’ more performance-oriented sibling, the M8, at the 24 Hours Nürburgring event.

Though we couldn’t be there (for obvious logistic reasons), one savvy videographer caught the M8 in action. After getting a clumsy reveal, the M8 comes to life in dramatic fashion. What’s more, the driver wasn’t shy about opening up its pipes a little.

The exhaust note was rumbly at lower revs and downright shrieking higher in the rev band. And when it smacked the rev limiter, it hit hard, resulting in one hell of a crackle from its massive tailpipes. I can’t quite tell what’s under the hood from the video, but it’s almost certainly a V-8. Nearly all reports before this video claimed the M8 will not receive the 12-cylinder treatment, so this seems to line up with those claims.

While it was under heavy camo, it looks as if the one sore spot I pointed out on the concept – its grille – appears to be toned down a bit. Sure, you cannot see the full grill under the camo, but you can make out its rough outline, and it looks less dramatic than the concept’s.

With its official launch coming sometime in 2018, we expect to see the entire 8 Series lineup, including the M8, hit the show circuit in its production form later this year or early 2018.

Stay tuned for updates.
