Ford Makes the Mustang GT’s Growl More Neighborhood-Friendly

The 2018 Ford Mustang has undergone many changes, and today, Ford announced yet another update. But this time around, the update is more for those around you than yourself.

The 2018 Ford Mustang GT will feature an active-valve exhaust system, and it will feature three very typical modes: Normal, Sport, and Track. But what will set it apart is the fourth mode: The all-new Quiet Mode, which Ford engineers jokingly call “good neighbor mode.”

This mode drops the exhaust’s growl by about 10 decibels, bringing it down to a more neighborhood-friendly 70 decibels. While that is a cool magic trick, what really makes Quiet Mode unique is its ability to be programmed to automatically activate during certain times. So, don’t want your gnarly V-8’s growl waking up the neighbors between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.? Just set the quiet times via the “Pony” menu in the 12-inch LED instrument cluster or in the “Settings” menu in the standard 4-inch driver information center, and you’re golden.

As we get closer to the release of the 2018 Ford Mustang, it seems like new features keep popping up, including the new corralled pony, the 10-speed automatic transmission, the new Drag Mode that drops the 0-to-60 time below four seconds, and more. This makes me wonder what else Ford will announce between now and the new Mustang’s arrival.
