Want a Chevy Equinox? Get In Line

Are you one of the scores of people who really want a Chevy Equinox? I’ve got some bad news: GM is running out of them. This is not a drill.

Thanks to an ongoing strike at the CAMI Assembly plant by the good people of Ingersoll, Ontario, the supply of Equinoxes is drying up. Of course, it’s not the only vehicle made there, but it is GM’s most popular, and that’s a problem.

In a desperate attempt to fix the situation, GM is stepping up plans to get two factories in Mexico going. They would churn out plenty of the SUVs, but everyone will likely feel the supply pinch first.

The bad news just keeps coming, because once dealers see a constriction in the Equinox supply line and people are lining up to buy them, price inflation will follow. Some of you will decide to buy a Ford, Hyundai, or Toyota instead, and ultimately GM loses out. Well, the dealers lose as well.

On the bright side, you have plenty of quality alternatives, if you’re not totally sold on the Equinox.

There’s still a chance GM can get the flow going again, so I’m not encouraging anyone to rush out and buy an Equinox. In fact, I don’t recommend rushing to buy any vehicle.
