Dodge Recalls Hellcats

If you’re the proud owner of a Dodge Challenger or Charger Hellcat, you may be fortunate enough to visit your local dealer for stale popcorn and soda. That’s right, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has filed a recall for 1,200 Hellcat models for something minor enough it may turn your car into a flaming ball of death.

According to NHTSA’s report, a failed engine oil cooler is the problem, thanks to a faulty rubber hose. Yes, one little hose can take a beast like a Hellcat down in a hurry.

You know you’ve got problems when oil starts spewing all over the windshield. Hopefully, you already have the sense to shut off the engine immediately and have your car towed. Worse is the other symptom: a seized engine. All that metal-on-metal contact will create enough friction to start a fire, which is slightly problematic.

FCA will contact owners of recalled vehicles, but you’ll have to wait until at least Sept. 22 to have the problem corrected. Until then, just drive your Camry?
