BMW Gives Us a Sneak Peek at the New Z

BMW is prepared to unleash the newest version of its Z Series lineup, and today, it gave us our first real “whiff” of the new sports car on Facebook.

This “whiff,” as BMW called it, gives us our first clear look at the redesigned sports car, which likely will carry on with the Z4 name or move to the Z5 nomenclature. In the images it’s clear that BMW isn’t messing around this time, as the new Z looks mighty fierce with its sharp hood ridges, what appear to be heat extractors on the hood behind the front wheels, its rising character line, and bold rear wheel wells.

Unlike the current Z4, this model looks downright scary… in a good way.

Other highlights include super-slim rearview mirrors, and a smaller, reworked BMW kidney grille.

While there is still no information on the new Z Series’ powertrain, we do know it’ll share its underpinnings with the resurrected Toyota Supra. Chances are, we’ll see variants of BMW’s newest four- and six-cylinder engines, which produce between 248 and 335 horsepower. We also could see a hybrid model with a tweaked version of Toyota’s electrified powertrain under its skin.

Fortunately, most of this speculation stops in mere hours, as BMW will reveal the all-new Z Series on Aug. 17.
