The Tesla Model 3 Will Have A Solar Roof

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Tesla and Solar City have merged. The company just showed off solar roof shingles. Now, things are going one step further with a solar glass effort.

We’re not talking about solar glass, like the kind that keeps car interiors cooler. No, this is solar glass, as in it collects solar rays and stores up energy. The first Tesla that will use this cutting-edge tech is the Model 3.

Back when the Model 3 was unveiled, everyone was wowed by the panoramic glass roof. Now we know it’s about more than just dramatic flair. The special glass is supposed to be incredibly durable, so you don’t have to worry about especially large hail, golf balls or whatever else crashing through into your lap.

Ironically, after Karma Automotive announced the new Revero has solar panels on the roof, people said it was vaporware. Now, everyone is freaking out over how innovative Tesla is, even though nobody has seen this solar glass technology at work now. Hopefully Tesla delivers, but seeing the reactions is interesting, to say the least.
