Volkswagen Will Give Us The Passat GT

Have you been craving a hot version of the Volkswagen Passat? If you said no, don’t worry, because VW has your back. That’s right: the Passat GT is coming to a dealership near you.

If you think the words “performance” and “Passat” should never mix, this new car is supposed to change your mind. In case you don’t remember, Volkswagen baffled many when it debuted the Passat GT concept in 2016. It also brought back memories of the one Dodge Charger commercial.

According to a gripping report from Digital Trends, VW will use a VR6 engine to power this beast. Hopefully it tops the 280 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque you get with the current Passat’s VR6, otherwise what’s the point of the GT?

We do know the suspension will be sport tuned, for all that sporty driving owners no doubt will do.

The concept Passat GT drew heavily on the styling of the GTI. That’s kind of an insult to a great car, but so is the Jetta GLI. Besides the more aggressive exterior styling, the concept gained motorsports-inspired seats, and red exterior accent lines.

In these crazy times, the VW Passat GT will probably get the crap kicked out of it by the Ford Fusion Sport and Toyota Camry. Sorry to rain on your parade, but it’s true.

Fortunately, your wait for the Passat GT will be short. Volkswagen will roll it out initially as a 2018 model.
