The Porsche 911 With Get The Audi Virtual Cockpit

While everyone’s focusing on the exterior of the next-gen Porsche 911, a more interesting detail has emerged. Autocar claims that for the first time, everyone’s favorite rear-engined car will gain Audi’s Virtual Cockpit.

If you’re not familiar with the tech, go check out the Audi TT, or the new A4, R8, and Q7. Don’t expect it to be just like what you get in the Audi, because Porsche has to put its unique touch on everything it does. But these are one of the fringe benefits of being part of the Volkswagen Group.

Expect that the Virtual Cockpit will spread to other Porsches in the near future. It’s an important step in not making infotainment systems that suck.

Also interesting, Autocar still claims Porsche is considering making a hybrid version of the 911, after other publications say that idea has been tabled for now. It claims the wider stance of the test mules everyone’s been spotting proves that’s the case. After all, hybrid components take up a bit of space in the chassis.

We should see the next-gen 911 soon. Porsche will make it a 2018 to 2019 model.
