Jaguar Gives Us a Glimpse at a 575-Horsepower XJR
Jaguar has been showing that its interest in large comfy sedans is fading as it focuses more on the likes of the compact XE, the F-Type sports car and its growing SUV lineup. But that doesn’t mean the XJ lineup is altogether dead. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the British automaker showed off a new XJ with an not-so-subtle livery.
This was clearly a covered-up version of the next-iteration XJR — the performance version of Jag’s large sedan. While there were no details given, the livery did feature a series of “575” markings on it, leading all to believe this version of the XJR will boast 575 horsepower. If this proves true, it would be a 25-horsepower gain over the current model.
This engine is likely yet another reworked version of the company’s 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 with extra oomph to move this big automobile.
Given its mild power upgrade, we may see the XJR’s 0-to-60 time drop a few tenths to under the current model’s 4.4-second mark. We may also see its 174-mph top speed creep up a few mph.
There is not much else to say about the upcoming XJR, but we expect to see it make its official debut, sans 575 wrap, in the fall of 2018. Keep it locked here for updates.
