Tesla Finally Gets Serious About Manufacturing

Let’s be honest: Tesla hasn’t had the best track record when it comes to manufacturing. That could all change, and just in time for the Model 3 production ramp-up, thanks to a new development.

Elon Musk announced the company has bought Grohmann Engineering. The German company has operations in the US, plus China. The German headquarters will be called Tesla Advanced Automation Germany.

This means newer Teslas could have a far superior build quality. Before now, Tesla was first and foremost of tech company. Now it’s moving to become a manufacturing powerhouse.

And if you didn’t catch it above, it will be machines building the cars, not humans. That could mean round-the-clock production, and answer the question everyone’s been asking: how the hell is Tesla going to fulfill all those Model 3 orders in such a short amount of time?

Another key takeaway is that Musk called the Grohmann Engineering key to the company’s future. Instead of being on the fringes, Tesla is moving more into the mainstream, making it more likely to stick around in the mainstream for a long time to come.
