Another Subcompact Toyota SUV is Coming

Oh joy, Toyota is developing a new “urban crossover” for the Millennial crowd, according to Motor Authority. If you’ve been paying attention, the company has revealed three “urban crossover” concepts in the last six months, so this isn’t surprising. Still, it’s disappointing.
If you want to know what an “urban crossover” is, just think of a wanna-be SUV made for the younglings in major metropolitan areas. They’re essentially jacked-up small wagons, but don’t you dare call them that because such a term isn’t hip.
Sure, Toyota needs to keep the lights on. But we already have the C-HR, which apparently isn’t enough? The three concepts Toyota showed off recently have all had that tough appearance kind of like the 4Runner or late FJ Cruiser. That’s sad, because these vehicles can’t throw down on a trail. They’ll be hauling plenty of lattes and Americanos, plus some American Apparel bags in the back.
At least this new crossover will ride on the Toyota TNGA platform. That means all-wheel drive is in the mix. I always thought the C-HR was strange for not having that. Maybe this will be an improvement. Maybe this new crossover will be the death of the C-HR.
