Nissan Reveals 2018 LEAF’s Taillights in Latest Teaser

The reveal of the all-new 2018 Nissan LEAF is near, and the Japanese automaker has just unveiled another teaser video and image. Along with these teasers is a little more info on the upcoming model.

According to Nissan’s press release, the new LEAF’s peaceful electric drive allows the driver to focus on another sense: vision. To align with this, Nissan has enhanced areas of the LEAF that involves the driver’s vision.

The enhancements include available Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology, like radar-based cruise control and other safety features that allow the car to see what you see (and may not see) on the road.

More directly, Nissan will enhance the LEAF’s visual appeal with “premium interiors designed to suit your taste and offer buyers more comfort.” Given the current LEAF’s lack of focus on premium materials, this should be a welcome sight to buyers.

Now on to that teaser image. This photo shows off the 2018 LEAF’s new taillight and a piece of the hatch. While there is not much to take from this image, it is nice to see that the LEAF will boast a more conventional, albeit modern, design. This is an area where the LEAF has long struggled, as its initial design was polarizing, and the release of more conventional EVs has dampened its popularity a bit.

This more traditional design should drive up sales, given its powertrain can match the latest and greatest from Chevy and Tesla. The latter qualifier is going to be an uphill battle, as the current LEAF only travels up to 107 miles on a charge, and the Chevy Bolt EV and Tesla Model 3 more than double that range.
