Limited-Run CTS-V Glacier Metallic Edition is Actually a Great Value

In celebration of its 115-year history, the Cadillac of automobiles… uh, Cadillac, will release a special Glacier Metallic Edition of its insane CTS-V. It’s freaking expensive, but it’s actually a fine value.

While the name indicates this will be yet another overpriced special edition with little more than a neat color driving up its MSRP, this is not that car. Sure, it does have its namesake smoky light gray hue to start things off, but there’s more to it than a fancy color.

Other than that sleek anniversary hue, the CTS-V Glacier Metallic Edition has loads of additional features that set it apart. The exterior additions include red Brembo brake calipers peeking from behind Midnight Silver-painted 19-inch V-Series forged alloy wheels and the Carbon Fiber Package, which includes a carbon-fiber front splitter, hood vent, rear spoiler, and rear diffuser.

Inside, buyers will get the Luxury Package, which adds three-zone climate control, a split-folding rear seat with an armrest, heated rear seats, a power rear window sunshade, manual rear side-window sunshades, a 110-volt outlet, and a rear camera mirror. Other interior features include the Recaro performance seats and an Ultraview sunroof.

On the tech side of things, this special edition includes cloud-based driver preferences, a performance data and video recorder, and predictive navigation with real-time traffic.

Under its hood, this special edition remains the same. It carries a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine that delivers 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque. This heads through an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers power to the rear wheels.

There will be 115 examples available, and 105 of those will be available at dealers soon, production kicks off in August. There is no mention where the remaining 10 units are going, but my gut says they are already spoken for by Cadillac brass and preferred buyers.

The 2018 Cadillac CTS-V Glacier Metallic Edition will start from $103,885 (destination fees included). While that $16,595 premium over the base CTS-V seems ludicrous, once you start adding in all the features this limited-edition model has, it’s actually at least $1,200 cheaper than the regular CTS-V.
