Porsche 911 GT2 RS Destroys Nurburgring Lap Time Record

Let the debates begin, because Nurburgring lap times are always controversial. This time it’s Porsche stirring the pot with the new 911 GT2 RS. It turned out a 6:47.3 lap time, which you can watch above, smoking the Lamborghini Huracan Performante’s 6:52.01 record.

People thought Lamborghini’s record time would last for quite a while. It stood for about six months, and now look where we are.

Within a few laps, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS did a sub-6:50 lap, which set the world record just like that. Porsche once again proves its engineering is no less than impressive.

This means the GT2 RS is now the record holder for production vehicle lap times at the ‘Ring. Just to be on the safe side, Porsche brought its own notary to certify that lap time, in classic German anal-retentive fashion.

The 700-horsepower 911 GT2 RS averaged 114 mph during that record lap, which is amazing. This means that Porsche has reclaimed the title that Lamborghini snatched from the 918 Spyder, which turned out a 6:57 lap.
