Jaguar Land Rover Has Some Huge Plans
Jaguar Land Rover has plans, big plans, and by the time it’s finished your head might be spinning.
First off, Auto Express says new Jaguars and Land Rover models will get new badging that makes their names longer. Maybe the Brits think the Germans are onto something. Reportedly, after the regular model name like “F-Type” will be a single letter that designates fuel type, either “P” for petrol (that’s gas for Americans) or “D” for diesel, then a number that matches peak horsepower output. At least there’s some logic to this nomenclature, unlike BMW’s.
Next up, Land Rover is looking to build a car, not an SUV or even a crossover, that will hit the market in 2019. Autocar claims to have an exclusive source that says the Road Rover will take on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Lexus LS. Nobody really knows what form this car will take on, but Jaguar has an SUV with more on the way, so this will help balance that out.
Finally, Jaguar Land Rover owner Tata Motors thinks the Brits need to “bulk up” to survive the future market. That means buying another luxury car brand, plus some tech companies, per Bloomberg. Speculation is all over, but one of the more logical possibilities is Aston Martin. Mazda’s in there, along with Maserati and Alfa Romeo.
These are exciting and interesting times for Jaguar Land Rover.
