With a new, better-looking Porsche Panamera is coming something dealers and shoppers both have been begging for: a five-seater option. When the Panamera Sport Turismo line of wagons arrives toward the end of 2017, you will be able to cram three people in the back of the vehicle.
Automotive News recently ran a piece on this aspect of Panamera shopping I’d honestly missed out on, because I’ve never gone shopping for a Panamera. To be quite frank, when I visit Porsche dealers, I don’t even look at the Panameras. But, I have to admit wagons are a personal weakness, so that might change.
Four different Panamera Sport Turismo models will be sold through dealerships: 4, 4S, 4E-Hybrid, and Turbo. They correspond with the regular Panamera models, even sharing engines.
In my opinion, the Sport Turismo looks better than the regular Panamera, and it’s more functional. You never know when having one more seat can come in handy, while the additional cargo is always a good idea. That’s why I’m a big proponent of wagons.
Some mainstream media outlets have been puzzled that Porsche is going to start selling a wagon, because they’re clueless and only think of the Brady Bunch. Sure, I’d rather have a 911 or a 718 Cayman, but taking either one to Ikea would be interesting. Sure, there’s the Cayenne and Macan, but a lower center of gravity has definite advantages.
