BMW Is Making Lightweight M2s

Someone inside BMW is starting to think clearly again. First, we get the wondrous M2, a performance car not weighed down by useless luxury. Now, we’ve learned through BMW Blog that a lightweight edition of the car is coming to America.

BMW has confirmed that the 2017 BMW M2 Performance Edition is real and not just a rumor. It’s loaded up with M Performance parts, like an exhaust and suspension, so you get better handling and power. Oh, and by shedding weight, performance all around will be improved.

To drop some weight, the sport seats are manual, with no lumbar adjustment or heaters. There’s just single-zone climate control, and the sound system is basic, instead of a fancy Harman Kardon. You get keyless entry, but you have to press a button on the fob to use it. Oh, and a manual transmission is the only option, because that’s how it’s supposed to be. If you can live without all those “necessities” you get a serious performance car.

Bravo, BMW.

Each M2 Performance Edition looks the same, with an Alpine White paint job and black grilles, side gills, mirror caps and wheels. Other styling differences include illuminated door sills, plus door projectors that announce you’re one of the lucky few who scooped up a Performance Edition model.

At just 150 units, you need to hurry if you want to get one of the M2 Performance Editions. BMW says they’re available to order through dealers right now, so don’t wait.
