Chrysler Recalls All Pacifica Hybrids

Pretty much everybody was wowed when Chrysler announced the plug-in Pacifica Hybrid. After all, Fiat Chrysler hasn’t exactly been a leader in the alternative fuel revolution. But initial reviews of the minivan have been impressive. Now, we learn owners have been suffering through issues, and Chrysler has recalled all Pacifica Hybrids.

Thanks to production and quality control delays, the first Pacifica Hybrids reached customers in late April. So far, 1,677 have been delivered in the United States and Canada.

The biggest problem and the main thrust of this recall, is a small percentage of the minivans stopping dead in their tracks when in EV mode. Malfunctioning diodes cause the issue. As you might imagine, having your motor stop working while the vehicle is moving could be… concerning.

No injuries or accidents have been caused by the fault, according to Fiat Chrysler. Not only is the company proactively and voluntarily fixing the problem diodes, it’s offering a free loaner to Pacifica Hybrid owners. If you have questions, you can contact your local dealer, or call Fiat Chrysler directly at 800-853-1403.

Inside EVs claims that dealers have been ordered to not sell any more Chrysler Pacifica Hybrids until they’ve been repaired. A solution might take all the way until late this year, but hopefully not.
