Ford Introduces Streaming Live TV For 2018 Expeditions

If you’ve ever wanted to watch live TV in a car, Ford feels your pain, and wants to alleviate it. With the 2018 Expedition, an optional system uses SlingPlayer to send live television to the entertainment system.

This is the first time SlingPlayer has been offered in a car. Just remember all that Ford has done to improve society by beaming quality programing right into your vehicle, so you can watch Property Brothers while stuck in traffic. Come to think of it, this feature could increase road rage, depending on how it’s used.

The new entertainment system also accommodates DVDs, and has a HDMI, USB and SD slots. Other options to stream video are included, like Miracast for streaming videos from some Android smartphones. A SmartStream program on the system allows for streaming from compatible Apple and Android devices.

Also available for the new Expedition is mobile WiFi that can support up to 10 devices at once. It broadcasts up to 50 feet away, too.

You won’t need to wait long for this transformative experience. The 2018 Ford Expedition should start hitting dealerships late this year.

The good news is this option isn’t being limited to behemoth SUVs. The new EcoSport will also be offered with it. CD players won’t even be optional on the smaller vehicle, because Ford figures Millennials don’t want them. Instead, smartphone storage and a more upright touchscreen will fill in the extra space.
