Speculation Abounds That Lamborghini Faked Nurburgring Lap Time
Don’t mess with the bull, because you’ll get its horns. Lamborghini isn’t amused that some experts on the Internet think it faked the Nurburgring lap time for the Huracan Performante. I posted the video before, which has been called bogus and heavily edited.
Let’s be honest, some people think we never landed on the moon. And that there are water-powered cars that can go 1,000 miles on H20 fuel.
The claim is that Lamborghini used GPS data for the speedo displays in the video, instead of using wheel speed. That could be how the bull outdid the Porsche 918. Oh, and Pirelli let it slip that it made bespoke tires for the car, just for the lap time attempt. In other words, owners won’t be able to replicate this success.
But Lamborghini isn’t amused by this skepticism. It provided all GPS telemetry for the lap to CNET Roadshow. The company also said if you want to pony up the cash, those fancy Pirellis will be an option, so they’re not really going to be bespoke masterpieces.
The controversy isn’t over. Christian von Koenigsegg says the One:1 could whip around the ‘Ring in 6:40, smoking Lamborghini’s record lap. An ABS system failure literally wrecked the boutique automaker’s lap attempt. For the record, Koenigsegg is one of those skeptical experts. Hopefully he puts his car on the track and rips the standing record to shreds.
