The Chevy Spark EV Is Dead And Nobody Will Care

This week, The Detroit Free Press learned from Chevrolet that the Spark EV is getting the ax. Originally, the company claimed that the Bolt wouldn’t mean the end of the line for the little electric hatchback. That was before the Bolt sold over 1,100 units in its second month.

The question is, will anyone really notice the Spark EVE is dead? It sold slow, and wasn’t available to most of the US market, with sales limited to California, Maryland and Oregon. The Bolt, on the other hand, is demonstrating widespread appeal and will be expanding to all US states in the near future.

You can’t really blame Chevy for killing the Spark EV. Its range is only 82 miles, while the Bolt can go 200 miles on a single charge. The Spark EV costs only $4,000 less than the Bolt, so it really didn’t make sense to keep it around.

So don’t shed a tear for the Spark EV, because you likely never even saw one, let alone had the chance to get behind the wheel of one. What we’re getting instead is a more practical and all-around better vehicle.
