2018 Expedition Will Come Off-Road-Ready From the Factory

After learning that more than 20% of Expedition owners use their SUV for off-road adventures, Ford decided to release a factory-installed off-road package for the 2018 version of its large people mover.

Dubbed the FX4 Off-Road Package, this setup should sound familiar, as it’s been a part of the F-150 lineup for many years.

To help make this the most off-road-ready Expedition ever, the FX4 Off-Road Package includes a patented electronic limited-slip rear differential with 3.73-to-a gearing, off-road-tuned shocks, all-terrain tires wrapped around 18-inch Magnetic Metallic-painted cast-aluminum wheels, and seven skid plates that protect the intercoolers, the steering gear, the engine, the transmission, the transfer case, and the fuel tank. Ford also shortened the front chin spoiler for an improved approach angle.

In terms of aesthetics, this package adds chrome running boards, FX4 badging, and rubber floor mats.

Of course, this package will come equipped with the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 powerplant that injects 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Shifting is the job of the new 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2018 Expedition will hit showrooms in the fall of 2017, and the FX4 Off-Road Package will arrive at the same time.

Stay tuned for updates.
