Jaguar Reveals its Plans to Debut a Compact Crossover Next Month
Jaguar saw a huge spike in sales following its entry into the crossover segment with the F-Pace — specifically, it’s seen a 44% sales growth through May 2017. Now, Jag is looking to take an even firmer grasp of the luxury crossover segment with a new compact model.
Dubbed the E-Pace, this new compact crossover will join the current F-Pace and the upcoming all-electric I-Pace in Jaguar’s up-and-coming crossover lineup. The details are sparse, but Jaguar does mention it’ll combine sports car looks with crossover utility.
In the images Jaguar released, you can see that the headlights take on almost an F-Type look, while its front bumper features large outer air intakes and its doors feature an aggressive scallop in their lower sections. Its short overhangs are also clearly visible, especially in the rear, as are its flared rear wheel arches.
As for the powertrain, Jaguar revealed what shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone: the E-Pace will have standard all-wheel drive and an assortment of Ingenium gasoline engines. My assumption is that this crossover will share its platform with the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, meaning one of its engines should be the 240-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged unit.
Inside, Jaguar is promising a “suite of connected technology and convenience features.”
Oddly enough, Jaguar has already revealed the 2018 E-Pace’s starting price, which will come in at $38,600 plus a $995 destination fee. There will almost certainly be several versions of this crossover, including a possible SVO performance model, so look for additional pricing to come soon.
Jaguar will fully reveal the all-new E-Pace to the world on July 13, 2017.
