Honda to Debut the Production Civic Si on April 6
Typically, automakers will release the most performance-oriented version of a new car last, teasing fans by dangling that carrot as long as they can. But Honda staggered the release of the Civic, opting to show the base model first, then show the range-topping Type R. That left the middling Civic Si as the last version to debut, and we finally have an official reveal date and details.
April 6, 2017 is the day we’ll finally see what Honda has in store for its completely redone Civic Si.
This won’t be a typical debut, though. Instead of showing it off at an auto show, Honda will launch the Si via a YouTube video, which you can see here. According to the press release, this will be a “fast-paced on-track video” that “showcase the dynamic capabilities of the sportiest and most agile Civic to ever wear the renowned Si badge.” Well, that sounds quite promising.
While Civic fans are excited to see the production Si, they already got a taste of it from the Civic Si Prototype (pictured) that debuted at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. While the looks will likely carry over virtually unchanged from the prototype, what remains a mystery is the power behind this performance rig.
Luckily, Honda made it clear that it will not hold back information, including horsepower and torque, when it finally debuts. This, along with the price range, on-sale information and images, will be available here on April 6.
What we do know about the 2018 Honda Civic Si is that it’ll use a retuned version of the 174-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder in the standard Civic paired with a short-throw six-speed manual transmission. It will also feature an active-damper suspension, variable-ratio steering, a helical limited-slip differential, and available high-performance tires.
Once the Civic Si debuts on April 6 at 11 a.m. EDT, we’ll be here with all the details, so stay tuned.
