Big Changes to the Jaguar F-Type’s Looks and Powertrains in 2018

The Jaguar F-Type is only half a decade old, but it’s already undergone tons of updates. For 2018, these updates will continue with a new engine, an updated look, and more.

The F-Type’s already-sleek body gains a handful of updates to its front end, including revised full-LED headlights with distinct “eyelids,” a new bumper, and new air intakes, giving the sports car an even more aggressive appearance. Inside, the updates are limited to new, available magnesium-alloy-framed slimline seats that shave 17 pounds from the curb weight, new chrome and aluminum trim pieces, and a new Siena Tan leather option across the lineup (once only available with the SVR model).

The F-Type’s technology also gets an upgrade in the new year. Buyers will find the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system is now standard across the lineup. There is also a new ReRun App that Jag created with GoPro, which creates driving videos with real-time telemetry integration. The resulting video not only shows the driving experience, but it also displays speed, throttle position, gear selection, braking force, g-force and steering wheel angle. To operate this system, the driver will have to connect a smartphone to the infotainment system via Bluetooth.

A new R-Dynamic trim also debuts to add more options for buyers. This trim comes with the 380-horsepower 3.0-liter V-6, Dark Grey Diamond Turned 20-inch alloy wheels, gloss-black front air vent bezels, and gloss-black front splitter, hood vents, rear valance, and side sills.

Outside than the appearance, the other huge change in 2018 is the debut of the F-Type’s first-ever four-cylinder engine. This 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot produces 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Sending this power to the rear wheels is an eight-speed Quickshift transmission. Despite its lack of cylinders, this powertrain delivers great performance: it’ll sprint the F-Type to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds and up to a 155-mph top speed. The other engines will carry on unchanged, including the 340- and 380-horsepower V-6 engines, and the 550- and 575-horseower V-8s.

The 2018 Jaguar F-Type will hit showrooms later in 2017 with a price range of $59,900 ($1,500 cheaper than the 2017 base model) to $125,000.
