2018 Subaru Legacy Gets a New Look and Tech

The Subaru Legacy took on a new look in 2015. Now, with three years under its tread, the sedan is set for a midcycle refresh in 2018.

While the overall design of the Legacy carries over, it does get a healthy dose of new style. This starts up front with its new nose, which includes lower and wider grille openings, a new bumper with a wing element, new horizontal lines coming from the grille area, which mimic the movement of the Legacy’s boxer engine, and new headlights with “Konoji” daytime running lights. There are also new available steering-responsive LED headlights.

Around back, the new Legacy has a new tailpipe design that integrates into the lower fascia for a more upscale look and a restyled bumper. These pair up to visually make the Legacy appear wider.

Inside, the 2018 Legacy will include more premium materials for added comfort and a redesigned center console. There is also an available 8-inch central screen, while Premium and higher trims will include real stitching on the dash, seats and door panels, and high-gloss black trim and silver-colored bezels on select controls for a more premium appearance. Finally, there is a new, larger clock.

Comfort is also enhanced by way of a new air conditioning system that cools the cabin more quickly and evenly. All models also feature delayed power off when the driver turns off the ignition, giving occupants a few seconds of power to roll up window, etc.

On the tech side, the new Legacy gains the latest Subaru Starlink Multimedia system. The base system is the Starlink 6.5, which is faster than the previous model’s 6.2-inch system. There is also the new, optional Starlink 8 system with the earlier mentioned 8-inch screen. Finally, there’s a slew of new apps for 2018: Magellan NAVI with cloud-based mapping, eBird, Best Parking, YELP, Glympse, RightTrack, Quick Guide and eventseeker.

The safety features also receive a light overhaul with the new tire pressure monitoring system that checks each tire individually, larger blind spot monitoring indicator lamp and dynamic guidelines on the standard rearview camera.

Prices are not yet available for the 2018 Legacy, but we should receive them closer to its summer 2017 launch.
