Land Rover Is Making An SVO Version Of The New Disco

To preserve the down-and-dirty image of the Land Rover Discovery, Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) is working on a more rugged version of the SUV. This comes from an Auto Express interview with John Edwards, CEO of SVO.

Edwards couldn’t outright say what this special Disco will be like, but he did drop some interesting hints. Among them, he divulged it will land somewhere on the scale “between Paris Dakar and Camel Trophy.”

It’s probably safe to say SVO isn’t working on a luxurious mall cruiser. That’s great news for people who love Land Rover for more than just the badge. The upgrades might include an exterior that looks more rugged, maybe with a snorkel and roof basket?

Land Rover has been toying with some pretty amazing off-roading tech in the past few years. This new version of the Discovery would be an ideal way to bring some of that to market. One possible addition could be the “invisible hood” that lets drivers see obstacles right in front of the SUV.

Steven has been writing about cars and other transportation issues worldwide for over ten years. His love for cars started long before he can remember, with Corvettes and 911s being his first car-crushes. Since then, he has owned many types of vehicles and has come to appreciate a wide variety of models, the diverse car culture groups, and the automotive industry in general.
